The World KenKen Championship reached a historic milestone in Hong Kong. For the first time since its inception, the championship was held outside the United States, marking a new chapter for this global mind sport.
Hong Kong was chosen as the first Asian host city for a meaningful reason. As an international city with exceptional connectivity, cultural diversity, and global accessibility, Hong Kong provided the perfect stage to bring the world together.
This year’s championship gathered 162 top logic-puzzle players from 8 countries and regions, including the United States, Japan, Australia, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It was a rare international arena where borders, languages, and ages faded away, leaving only logic, focus, precision, and mental strength.
Among the outstanding competitors were some of the most respected names in the global puzzle community: John Gilling, the legendary American champion who has stood at the top of the world for years; Zheng Zexuan, the formidable young talent from China; Yochi Enta, the deeply experienced Japanese veteran; and, of course, the Malaysian team, who proudly secured 4 of the global top 10 positions in the prestigious Founder’s Cup Challenge.
KenKen is a mind sport that needs no common spoken language. It communicates through numbers, patterns, logic, and precision. Hong Kong’s international inclusivity made this extraordinary meeting of minds possible, allowing the world’s strongest players to compete together on one shared stage.
For Malaysia, this championship was more than a competition. It was a proud moment of recognition, proving that Malaysian players can stand confidently among the world’s best and make their presence felt on the international stage.
Our initial goal was simple: to bring the children overseas, expose them to world-class competition, and let them experience the international stage. Instead, they did far more than observe. They competed with courage, discipline, and confidence.
The Founder’s Cup accepts only the global top 10, with nearly 90% of participants eliminated. We would have been proud if even one Malaysian player qualified. Instead, four Malaysian players secured places in the global top 10, a remarkable achievement for Malaysia.
At this level, every detail matters. One wrong cell, one hesitation, or one misjudgment can change the result. Eason came incredibly close to an even higher ranking, but standing among the world’s strongest players already proved that he had earned his place at the same table as the very best.
Another proud highlight was Coach Lye Zhang Cheng, whose calm and almost zero-mistake performance under immense pressure brought home a precious World Bronze medal for Malaysia.
This achievement was not a sudden miracle. It was the result of years of consistent training, strong foundations, patience, resilience, and belief.
Malaysia’s logic education is on the right track.
From today onward, when Malaysia appears in the international draw, we will no longer be seen merely as a team gaining experience.
We will be seen as a team ready to compete.
